The interstellar plasma is shown with an orange glow similar to the color seen in visible-light images from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope that show stars in the Orion nebula traveling through interstellar space. The environment inside our solar bubble is dominated by the plasma exhausted by our sun, known as the solar wind. Interstellar space is dominated by the plasma, or ionized gas, that was ejected by the death of nearby giant stars millions of years ago. This artist's concept depicts NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft entering interstellar space, or the space between stars. One plaque was dedicated to the Goddard Space Flight Center Lucy Mission Team with the message “Lucy Strong” to recognize the team’s hard work to assemble a spacecraft during a pandemic. Laminated on the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket that launched the Lucy spacecraft were three dedications. The words inscribed on the gold plaque were not the only messages of strength, dedication and the celebration of human life sent to space Saturday. See all of the messages, including quotes from Albert Einstein Joy Harjo, the first Native American to be named a US poet laureate and astronomer Carl Sagan, who worked on the Pioneer plaques and Voyager golden records, here.
